ILO renews supplementary understanding with Myanmar

ILO has agreed with the Government of Myanmar to extend for 12 months the ILO Supplementary Understanding which provides a mechanism for Myanmar Citizens to lodge complaints of forced labour through the ILO Liaison Officer in Yangon.

Press release | 02 March 2009

The International Labour Organization (ILO) has agreed with the Government of Myanmar to a further 12 month extension of the trial period of the ILO Supplementary Understanding. This agreement, which was made on Thursday 26 February 2009, makes no substantive changes to the Supplementary Understanding, which provides a mechanism for Myanmar Citizens to lodge complaints of forced labour through the ILO Liaison Officer in Yangon. The renewed agreement retains the provision that ensures freedom from harassment and retribution for complainants and other persons who support the operation of the complaints mechanism.

The ILO notes that the Government of Myanmar has issued its own press release about the renewal.
