Media Advisory: Exhibition of prize-winning Asia Pacific photos of working people with disabilities opens at Imperial Queen's Park Hotel

The exhibition is titled Beyond Barriers; Images of decent work for persons with disabilities in Asia and the Pacific. It comprises more than 30 photographs from the 2007 Decent Work for Persons with Disabilities photo contest.

An exhibition of prize-winning photos on the theme of decent work for persons with disabilities will open on Thursday 15 May at the Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel.

The exhibition is titled Beyond Barriers; Images of decent work for persons with disabilities in Asia and the Pacific. It comprises more than 30 photographs from the 2007 Decent Work for Persons with Disabilities photo contest. The purpose of the contest, and this exhibition, is to highlight the ability of persons with disabilities to work productively, support themselves and make a valuable contribution to society. It also seeks to focus attention on their rights, particularly their right to decent work.

Senator Monthian Buntan, President of the Thailand Association of the Blind, will be the guest of honour at the opening ceremony, which will be held on Thursday 15 May at 18.30 hours at the Lobby Lounge, Lobby Level, Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel, Sukhumvit 22.

The photo contest was organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO), Disabled Peoples’ International (DPI) and Irish Aid, to highlight International Day for Disabled Persons, which is marked on 3 December every year.

Nearly 250 pictures were entered, from 19 countries throughout Asia and the Pacific. Prizes were awarded to the best three photos from Asia-Pacific, as well as national winners for Thailand and Cambodia .

The exhibition, which is kindly being hosted by the Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel will be open daily from 10.00-22.00, until 13 June. There will also be a demonstration of handicraft making and a fundraising sale by the Group of Independent Disabled Artisans (GIDA)
