ILO Regional Director in Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam

Mrs Sachiko Yamamoto, ILO Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific and the Regional Partnerships, Resource Mobilization and UN Reform (RPAR) team visited Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam, along with the concerned senior specialists on workers and employers’ organizations. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen cooperation with both countries and to introduce the new ILO field structure.

ILO Regional Director in Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam

Mrs Sachiko Yamamoto, ILO Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific and the Regional Partnerships, Resource Mobilization and UN Reform (RPAR) team visited Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam, along with the concerned senior specialists on workers and employers’ organizations. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen cooperation with both countries and to introduce the new ILO field structure.

In Malaysia, 9-10 May, the team made a courtesy call to Minister of Human Resources (MOHR), HE Dr Datuk Suramanium, A/L K.V.S. Sathasivam, together with senior officials to discuss cooperation with the ILO. The team also had meetings with Mr Abdul Halim Mansor, Secretary General of the Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC); and Mr G. Rajasekaran, Executive Secretary of the Metal Industry Employees Union, as well as Mr Dato' Azman, President, and Mr Shamsuddin Bardan, Executive Director of the Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF). In addition, the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water held a high-level discussion on collaboration with ILO on Green Jobs on the context of Green Jobs Action Plan Workshop which was also attended by officials from the Ministry of Human Resources.

On 11 May in Brunei Darussalam, Ms Yamamoto, accompanied by Ms Thetis Mangahas, Deputy Regional Director, Policy and Programmes, made a courtesy call to HE Pehin Dato Hj Badaruddin Dato Paduka Hj Othman, Minister of Home Affairs. A tripartite meeting was held with the ILO team, hosted by Mr Ramlee Haji Jamudin, Acting Commissioner of Labour, to discuss future ILO cooperation with Brunei.
