Signing of Vanuatu’s Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) and celebrations for ILO 90

On Wednesday 22nd April, 2009, at the University of the South Pacific (Emalus Campus), Vanuatu's tripartite constituents plus more than forty invited guests came together to witness the signing of Vanuatu's first ever Decent Work Country Programme.

The event was a double celebration as a cake was cut to mark ILOs 90th anniversary. Deputy Prime Minister of Vanuatu, Rt. Hon MP Ham Lini Vanuaroroa was Guest of Honour and the Commissioner of Labour and Employment Services was the Master of Ceremonies. Werner Blenk, Director for the Pacific Island Countries spoke on behalf of the ILO. Celebrations included a specially commissioned live song performance by youth from the ILO youth employment programme and a 'birthday gift' of a wood carving from an ILO supported youth enterprise presented to the ILO Pacific Director. The event was covered by the national TV news network and also by the national daily newspapers.
