  1. Workshop on Labour Disputes and Settlement in the Public Service

    15 - 16 May 2012

    The workshop is in support to the clamor of public sector unions towards ratification of Convention 151 and to enhance their capacities in addressing collective bargaining issues and labour dispute resolutions in the public service sector.

  2. Training Programme on Prevention of Trafficking in Persons for Airport Taxi Drivers, Cab Drivers, 3 wheeler taxi drivers

    15 - 20 May 2012

    Three Training Programmes will be conducted for 100 Airport Taxi Drivers, 100 Taxi Cab Drivers, and 100 3 Wheeler drivers. The rationale being that taxi drivers, by virtue of their vocation may come into contact with victims and offenders of human trafficking, and as such are in an ideal position to report such cases to the law enforcement authorities. The Training Programme will include the following sessions; What is Human Trafficking- trafficking for labour exploitation, commercial sexual exploitation etc. , National laws and penalties for the offence of trafficking, Trauma & Psychological impact on victims, Investigation and reporting of cases, Legal Recruitment processes & Foreign Employment.

  3. 2nd Workshop on Enhancement of Recruitment Standard and Overseas Employment

    14 - 15 May 2012

    The aim of the workshop is to provide information on the international standards for private recruitment agencies and good practices. It also promotes the participation of recruitment agencies in developing a mechanism for implementing the developed code of conduct.

  4. Roll-Out Training for Experienced Ecotour Guides

    14 - 16 May 2012

    The main purpose of the roll-out training for ecotour guides is to provide experienced tour-guides, as well as potential ecotour guides, the opportunity to develop the necessary skills to plan and manage ecotours in line with the national competency standards for ecotour guides defined by the Indonesian Government.

  5. A Regional Consultative Forum on Welfare & Protection of Migrant Workers"

    13 - 15 May 2012

    A Regional Consultation is planned from 13-15th May 2012 in Amman Jordan, to review operational guidelines in Sri Lankan Diplomatic Missions to ensure the protection of migrant workers.

  6. Roll-Out Training for Beginner Ecotour Guides

    11 - 13 May 2012

    Under this activity, participants will be trained on the skills requirements to meet national ecotour guide competency standards, aimed at enabling participants to enhance their abilities and increase their employability within the tourism industry.

  7. Start and Improve Your Business Training of Trainers (SIYB-ToT) Post Evaluation Workshop

    10 May 2012

    This one-day event seeks to pool the graduates of ILO SIYB - ToT training in Quezon, Province. The workshop will follow a structured set of guide questions to process and consolidate the learning and recommendations for conducting SIYB-ToT. The workshop will also formulate an action plan to ensure the application of the module and enhance the business skills in Quezon Province and neighboring areas.

  8. Guidelines Launched for the Police and Military to Apply Freedom of Association and Right to Collective Bargaining

    The guidelines specifies the role of key players and addresses human rights and workers’ rights, particularly the important issues raised by workers, including violence against unionists, presence of the military in (or near) the workplace, labelling and stigmatization of unionists and harassment.

  9. Training of Trainers for Judges in the Industrial Relations Court on International Labour Standards

    7 - 11 May 2012

    The Supreme Court of Indonesia, the Industrial Relations Court (IRC), Judicial Training Centre and ILO are working in partnership to develop a training program for newly appointed judges to the Industrial Relations Court.

  10. Training of Trainers (ToT) for Ecotour Guides

    7 - 10 May 2012

    One of the selected activities to be undertaken by the Green Jobs in Asia project is a Training of Trainer (ToT) workshop on eco tour guiding for skilled tour guides in the Lombok area. Training will be designed to be participatory and interactive, encouraging participants to advocate for sustainable tourism in the West Nusatenggara.

  11. Launch of the Vermicomposting Project

    7 May 2012

    In partnership with FAO, the local Government of Mulanay and Social Action Center, the Bondoc-LED project will launch the "Vermicomposting Project" in Mulanay, Quezon. The project supports the sustainable use of natural resources available in the area to promote the practice of organic farming. The vermicomposting project seeks to capacitate the local farmers and produce their own organic fertilizers to address long-term issues on environment and food security, and advocate for green jobs and sustainable livelihoods.

  12. Dealing with Labour Issues in Export Supply Chains – Labour Rights and CSR – The Case of Thailand.

    4 May 2012

    Jointly organized by the ILO-IPEC programme and ECOT, the meeting will be an opportunity to provide better understanding of labour and human rights issues in supply chains as well as proactive approaches to address these issues in industry and businesses in Thailand. The half-day meeting is part of a partnership between the ILO and the Royal Thai Government to work on the issues of child labour, forced labour and improvements of working conditions and competitiveness of businesses in Thailand.

  13. Participatory Approach in the Monitoring of the WHO Global Code of Practice on the International Recruitment of Health Personnel

    2 - 10 May 2012

    Conduct of preliminary meetings to orient five groups of stakeholders on Code of Practice and the monitoring tool.

  14. Preparatory Regional Meeting of Labour Statisticians in Support of the 19th International Conference of Labour Statisticians (ICLS)

    2 - 4 May 2012

    In October 2013 the International Labour Organization (ILO) will convene the 19th International Conference of Labour Statisticians (ICLS) at its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The Conference will review and discuss for possible adoption a revised draft international standard for employment and work statistics. If adopted, the revised standard will update the current international standards for labour force statistics contained in the Resolution of statistics of the economically active population, employment, unemployment and underemployment and related guidelines. The standards have been in place since 1982 when the Resolution was adopted by the 13th ICLS. To facilitate the review of the standards and, following the recommendations of the 18th ICLS and the 39th Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission, in 2009, the ILO established a Working Group for the Advancement of Employment and Unemployment Statistics (WG).

  15. Youth Employment in Asia and the Pacific

    1 May 2012

    As a lead-up to the Youth Employment Forum to be held in Geneva, 23-25 May 2012, many activities were held globally to highlight youth employment issues. Thirteen countries in Asia and the Pacific are organizing various activities to raise awareness on the importance of youth employment.

  1. World day for safety and health at work 2012 "Promoting safety and health in small and medium enterprises"

    30 April 2012

    Cambodia will mark the World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2012 on 30 April with an event focussing on the theme of Promoting Safety and Health in Small and Medium Enterprises as an effective measures to promote safe and healthy workplaces.

  2. Training Workshop on Work Adjustment for Recycling and Management of Waste

    27 April 2012

    The Waste Management Authority of the Western Province of Sri Lanka in partnership with the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) of the Ministry of Labour and Labour Relations conducted the last in a series of 7 workshops to train 300 lead trainers in Work Adjustment for Recycling and Management of Waste.

  3. Job Fair

    27 - 29 April 2012

    The job fair was organized by the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare (MLSW) through the Department of Skill Development and Employment and the Provincial Employment Promotion Division; in close cooperation with Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI); and the Lao Federation of Trade Unions (LFTU); and 12 recruitment agencies. The job fair aims to promote information about employment opportunities at home and abroad, and raise awareness of how to migrate in a safe and legal way. The job fair has been timed during the New Year as this is traditionally a time when many people migrate.

  4. Financial Education Training for Cooperatives Board and Members

    26 - 27 April 2012

    The purpose of this training is to assist the cooperative board of Bromo and its members in understanding the importance of financial management and cost accounting principles aimed at improving community welfare and income generation vis-à-vis the promotion of environmentally sustainable livelihood activities.

  5. Workshop to capture “Young Voices from Sri Lanka”

    26 April 2012

    This workshop is to capture “Young Voices from Sri Lanka” in a participatory and inclusive manner, will take centre-stage on 26th April at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute in Colombo. The Workshop will comprise 60 young persons drawn from the 25 districts of the Island, who will contribute to a Position Paper that will reflect the contemporary concerns of Sri Lankan youth. The Workshop is being convened by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skills Development, under the auspices of its Minister, the Hon. Dullas Alahapperuma with technical and financial support from the International Labour Organisation in partnership with ILO constituents in Sri Lanka.
