  1. Addressing youth employment through promoting entrepreneurship education

    12 August 2013

    The ILO in collaboration with the Faculty of Business & Economics (FBE) of the University of the South Pacific (USP), Pacific Islands Private Sector Organisation (PIPSO) and the Pacific Youth Council (PYC), organised a panel public lecture and panel discussion on 12 August 2013 to mark International Youth Day 2013.

  2. Training workshop on the technical details of the ILO pension model

    12 - 16 August 2013

    At the training, the ILO specialists will explain how the ILO pension model works and how the specific model of Vietnam was built. The workshop will support the ILO Vietnamese partners, most notably VSS and MOLISA, to carry out actuarial valuations in the future using the ILO pension model.

  3. Training for enhancing Occupational Safety and Health activities: 12-16 August, 2013 in Ba Ria – Vung Tau

    12 - 16 August 2013

    Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) in collaboration with ILO/Japan OSH project and Japan Industrial Safety and Health Association (JISHA)will organize the OSH training to provide participants with the knowledge and experiences of Japanese good practices on: (i) practical, effective method of self – inspection at workplace; (ii) OSH promotional activities (5S, KYT, Zero-accident campaign) and; (iii) roles of Occupational Safety and Health Associations.

  4. Workshop on the Toolkit on Poverty Reduction through Tourism

    6 August 2013

    The launch of the Toolkit on Poverty Reduction through Tourism was followed by a workshop carried out by ILO in collaboration with the Chefs Guild of Sri Lanka to introduce the toolkit to stakeholders. This took place on 6th August 2013 at the Taj Samudra Hotel.

  5. Launching ceremony of National Wage Council

    6 August 2013

    The newly adopted Labour Code 2012 stipulates that “Based on the minimum living needs of the employee and his/her family, social and economic conditions, and wage levels in the labour market, the Government shall announce the regional minimum wage on the basis of the recommendation of the National Wage Council”. The introduction of this tripartite minimum wage fixing body in Vietnam recognizes the importance of participation of workers and employers (direct interested parties) into the Minimum Wage fixing process.

  6. Launch of the Toolkit on Poverty Reduction through Tourism

    5 August 2013

    ILO launched its toolkit on poverty reduction through tourism on 5th August 2013 at the Chef’s Guild awards ceremony held at the Bandaranayake International Convention Centre, Colombo.

  7. Online course: Preventing and addressing forced labour and trafficking in persons in East and South-East Asia

    3 August - 14 November 2013

    The AP-Forced Labour Net hosted an online course on preventing and addressing trafficking in persons in East and South-East Asia. The course was organized by Forced Labour Action in the Asian Region (FLARE project).

  1. The ILO/DOLAB consultation workshop on pre-departure training manual for migrant workers to Malaysia

    25 - 26 July 2013

    Under the framework of the GMS TRIANGLE project, the ILO and the Department for Overseas Labour, MOLISA will organize a consultation workshop on pre-departure training manual for migrant workers to Malaysia. The consultation workshop is proposed to present the draft manual and get tripartite constituents’ involvement in finalization. The manual was developed by ILO based on the results and recommendations of the assessment on predeparture training conducted in Viet Nam, Lao and Cambodia with the participation of tripartite constituents in 2011.

  2. Seminar of “Application of Kaizen and 5S towards sustainable business development of garment factories”

    25 July 2013

    Kaizen is an important philosophy in production, which includes various programs and tools to improve the quality of management and reduce waste through small and continuous improvements. In Kaizen, 5S is an important program with the goal of arranging production premises in a logical way, improving self-awareness and sense of responsibility of employees.

  4. Supporting Child Rights through Art, Education and the Media

    The Camp prompted children to recognize that work on the streets is a dangerous, risky business and that withdrawal is possible. 25 participants attended the SCREAM Camp- the majority between 15 to 18 years old- and participated in activities to on Children’s rights and conflict with the law, protective behaviour, HIV and AIDS, substance abuse- effects of drugs and alcohol, basic first aid skills, basic budgeting skills and jewellery making.

  5. Labour Code training for journalists

    18 - 19 July 2013

    A training workshop on the important changes in the new Labour Code will be organized for Vietnamese journalists based in the three biggest cities of Hanoi, HCM City and Da Nang on 18-19 July in Da Nang City.

  6. Tackling daily dangers of waste management

    17 July 2013

    Seven Pacific Island Countries (Fiji, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu) were represented at a training of trainers workshop on Occupational Safety and Health in Waste Management in Apia, Samoa in July.

    Launch of DFID-ILO “Work in Freedom” programme

    15 July 2013

    The UK Department for International Development (DFID), the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) will launch the new “Work in Freedom” programme to fight trafficking of women and girls from South-Asia.

    Trade reforms and openness have a significant impact on employment, particularly in developing countries. As Bangladesh's economy has become increasingly dependent on trade, the impact of trade on employment in Bangladesh is a subject of great interest but also major concern for the country.

  9. Interministerial meeting to review the proposed draft of the overseas employment policy 2013

    An inter-ministerial meeting was held by to review the proposed draft of the Overseas Employment Policy 2013. The meeting was attended by 18 ministries, divisions and departments.

  10. Multistakeholder workshop to share the proposed overseas employment policy 2013

    The International Labour Organization (ILO) facilitated a day-long workshop organized by the Ministry of Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment (MEWOE) to share the first draft of the proposed Overseas Employment Policy 2013. The initiative comes under the Project “Promoting Decent Work through Improved Migration Policy and its Application in Bangladesh”, which is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

  11. The first meeting of key stakeholders of the UN Partnership to Promote the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

    UNDP, ILO and UNICEF have been funded by the UN Partnership to Promote the Rights if Person with Disabilities for a 2-year project starting in 2013. The strategic focus of the project is to strengthen the capacities and roles of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities in the advocacy, development, implementation and monitoring of legal frameworks and policies, to help ensure that the current momentum around ratification of CRPD actually results in the empowerment of people with disabilities and enables them to claim their rights.

  12. ILO-IPEC Child labour project stakeholders workshop

    ILO-IPEC Child labour project is organizing the stakeholders workshop as the Project is coming to an end to reflect back on the work undertaken, lessons learnt and re-emphasize the sustainability issues.
