Occupational Safety and Health (RAS/21/51/KOR)

The long-awaited second National OSH Profile of Lao PDR endorsed at the high-level tripartite meeting

With the support of ILO/Korea Partnership Programme, Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare (MoLSW) organised the high-level tripartite meeting on 15 July 2021 and endorsed the 2nd National Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Profile of Lao PDR.

National OSH Profile is an inventory of all the tools and resources available in a country to implement and manage OSH as well as the level of performance of those resources and, where possible, an estimate of the magnitude of the problem: it covers both the current situation and trends in terms of occupational accidents and diseases. With the support of ILO/Korea Partnership Programme, the preparation of the Lao PDR’s 2nd National OSH Profile began in 2019. After the suspension in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was resumed in 2021 and the final draft was developed with the active participation of tripartite partners and other stakeholders. The Lao PDR first National OSH Profile was published in 2005.

The National OSH Profile is the first milestone for the Lao PDR’s ongoing efforts in the systems approach to OSH in line with International Labour Standards. The next step would be the development of National OSH Programme, based on the analysis of information provided by the National OSH Profile.
