Workshop on Reintegration Programmes for Returning Migrant Workers

This workshop will enable knowledge-sharing and collaboration on return and reintegration good practices for the ASEAN region, promote cooperation on bilateral and regional levels, and facilitate the development of the ASEAN Guidelines on Effective Return and Reintegration

The Government of Indonesia is hosting the Workshop on Reintegration Programmes for Returning Migrant Workers in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on 27-28 August 2019.

This workshop is an activity under the ASEAN Committee on the Implementation of the ASEAN Declaration on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers (ACMW) work plan 2016-2020, led by Indonesia.

The objectives of the workshop are:
  • Enable knowledge-sharing and collaboration between ASEAN Member States (AMS) on return and reintegration.
  • Increase awareness of good practices and determine if such practices can be implemented regionally and nationally.
  • Discuss ways forward for strengthening reintegration programmes in AMS, and promote related cooperation at the bilateral and regional levels.
  • Develop the ASEAN Guidelines on Effective Return and Reintegration to assist AMS in designing and implementing policies and programmes.

The project is coordinated by the Ministry of Manpower of Indonesia as planned in the 2016-2020 Work Plan of ASEAN Committee on the Implementation of ASEAN Declaration on Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers (ACMW).

The International Labour Organization (ILO), through its TRIANGLE in ASEAN programme, is providing technical and financial support to this project. TRIANGLE in ASEAN (2015-2025) is a partnership between the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), the Global Affairs Canada (GAC), and the ILO, which aims at maximizing the contribution of labour migration to equitable, inclusive, and stable growth in ASEAN.
