Sustaining the Gains of Decent Work across ASEAN: 3-day Training of Trainers Workshop on Risk Assessment, Control and Management: Key Components of Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems

The workshop aims to strengthen the capacity of the participants and respective institutions, in risk management, specifically hazard identification, risk assessment and control.

Background
The ASEAN Occupational Safety and Health Network (ASEAN-OSHNET) was formed in 2000 and has worked actively to share experiences and knowledge on OSH and to promote safe and healthy working conditions in the ASEAN Member States. The ASEAN-OSHNET has planned and implemented a range of programmes, including capacity building projects for governments, employers’ organizations and trade unions.

This training workshop is part of a continuing cooperation arrangement between the ILO and ASEAN-OSHNET.

Objectives
The workshop aims to strengthen the capacity of the participants and their respective institutions in risk management, specifically in hazard identification, risk assessment and control. The participants are expected to design and implement a risk assessment module for both the formal and informal sectors. The participants will also share their experience in risk assessment, control and management measures.

A network of trainers and trained OSH advocates will be created to maximize the impact of risk assessment techniques on the OSH situation in the participants’ countries.

Programme
36 participants from 10 ASEAN countries, as well as Papua New Guinea (PNG) and Timor Leste joined the workshop. The programme included participatory lectures, group work, country presentations and factory visits.

The workshop was organized with the support from the Government of the Republic of Korea through its ILO-Korea Partnership Programme.
