Organizing, Collective Bargaining & Actions for Gender Equality: Trade Union Training for Women Union Leaders

The training seeks to contribute towards the efforts of the trade unions to promote actions for equality, gender justice and leadership of women in trade unions. The workshop will be an opportunity for the women union representatives to not only review the situation facing women in the world of work and challenges for promoting gender equality but also contribute towards strengthening technical and organizational capacities of the women union leaders for follow up in the areas of organizing, collective bargaining and actions for gender equality.

The emerging economic environment has led to more and more women in the labour markets, but their voice, representation and participation in the decision making structures at work place and in the unions remain low, despite many initiatives being taken by the unions. Integration of women in the leadership and decision-making structures of the unions will go a long way in making unions more representative and improve their capacities for taking actions for gender equality and decent work. To faciliate this, unions also need to take measures for capacity building for leadership among its women activists for organizing, bargaining and representing members. This training workshop is aimed at supporting trade unions’s efforts for more gender-balanced representation and decision-making through training of women union leaders in the areas of organizing, collective bargaining and promoting follow up actions for decent work for all workers, including actions for gender equality.
