  1. Lao villagers register in social security

    Villagers on the Bolaven Plateau of Lao PDR can register in social security more easily, thanks to a mobile social security registration service piloted under the EU-funded SOLAR Project. A mobile team from the Lao Social Security Organisation visits villages, one at a time, to explain the national social security scheme to villagers, register interested persons, collect contributions and issue social security cards. The pilot will be expanded to other areas of Lao PDR in future.

  2. LSSO's mobile office visits Lao villages

    Lao Social Security Organisation piloted a mobile social security registration service in villages of the Bolaven Plateau, bringing social security services closer to rural people. The pilot received financial and technical support from ILO under the EU-funded SOLAR Project.

  4. Understanding informality and expanding social security coverage in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic

    The research report contains quantitative analysis of the labour force and enterprise landscape in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and results of field work in three sectors. We hope that the findings can be useful to make tailored, evidence-based strategies and legislation to expand social security coverage and aid formalization in the country.

    The “Breaking Barriers, Building Futures: ASEAN Regional Dialogue on Young People’s Skills, Employability and Transition to Decent Work” was co-organized by the ASEAN Secretariat, the International Labour Organization (ILO), and UNICEF in collaboration with the UNDP, UNESCO, and UN Women, through the endorsement of the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Youth (SOMY) on 17-18 October 2023 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

  6. Fourth Joint Dialogue on labour migration between the ASEAN Trade Union Council and the ASEAN Confederation of Employers

    The ASEAN Confederation of Employers (ACE) and the ASEAN Trade Union Council (ATUC) and their country-level affiliates are meeting in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, on 14 February 2024 for a Fourth Joint Dialogue on labour migration.

  7. Training of trainers on social protection in Lao People's Democratic Republic

    A refresher training of trainers (TOT) on social protection was organized by ILO and Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare in December 2023 in Vang Vieng, Lao People's Democratic Republic. The TOT applied practical and fun activities to encourage participants not only to learn from the trainers and from one another, but also to delve into their own experiences and analyse them.

  8. Briefing note for high-level visit to Champasak Province

    The briefing note provides summary information for the high-level delegates who visited Paksong District and Pakse City in Champasak Province of Lao PDR on 19 May 2023. The delegates met with beneficiaries and partners of three EU-funded projects implemented by ILO in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare: SOLAR, Ship to Shore Rights South East Asia, and Safe and Fair.
