Tuvalu became a member of the ILO in 2008.
With a population of 10,000 people and land area of 26 square kilometres, it is one of the smallest of the Pacific island states. The ILO’s top priorities in Tuvalu include projects to help boost economic growth, income generation and create better employment opportunities. The ILO and its Tuvaluan constituents are currently in the process of reviewing the country’s labour laws and standards. The country is presently working towards ratification of core ILO conventions.
ILO work in Tuvalu is handled through the ILO’s Office for the Pacific in Suva.
