June 12, World Day Against Child Labour
Seasonal agriculture is one of the worst forms of child labour. Unfortunately, hundreds of children are now in the field instead of being in school. It is quite possible that a child picked the beet from which the sugar in the tea you drink is obtained, the fruit you will eat soon, and the vegetables in your meal. As a responsible consumer, follow the child's handprint in what you eat. Trace those handprints. Question the places you shop, the producers, the farmers, your political representatives, and of course yourself. Question until everyone realizes that they have a share in the solution, takes action, and no one dares to resort child labour. Let the children go to school, not to the fields, and let social justice be for all.
