2013 Labour Overview of Latin America and the Caribbean - SUMMARY

The 20 years of the publication of the Labour Overview cover two very different decades in terms of labour markets of the region. The first was characterized by economic fluctuations, instability and labour losses, including a sharp rise in unemployment. The second decade was marked by significant advances that reduced unemployment to historic lows.

The loss of economic dynamism affected the labour market in Latin America and the Caribbean. In 2013, labour indicators reveal that advances made in previous years have stagnated. The region runs the risk of losing an opportunity to advance in the creation of more and better jobs. We are at a positive but challenging point in time.
