Geneva, 14 June 2010 – The Committee on HIV/AIDS and the world of work adopted its report today, together with the final text of the Recommendation on HIV/AIDS which will be submitted for adoption to the plenary session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) later this week.

A proposed new labour standard on HIV/AIDS in the world of work has received solid support from the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the World Health Organization during the annual meeting of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva.

This year’s International Labour Conference will see the second, and final discussion on the development of a labour standard on HIV/AIDS and the world of work. If adopted, the recommendation will be the first international human rights instrument on AIDS in the workplace. ILO Online spoke to ILO/AIDS Director, Dr. Sophia Kisting about the Recommendation.
