Recommendation concerning HIV and AIDS and the World of Work, 2010 (No. 200)

The first international labour standard on HIV and AIDS in the world of work, was adopted by governments, employers’ and workers’ representatives from ILO member States at the International Labour Conference in June 2010.

Did you know that…?

  • The Political Declaration on HIV and AIDS (2011) adopted by the United Nations General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) refers to ILO conventions and recommendations, including the HIV and AIDS Recommendation, 2010 (No. 200), and recognizes the important role of the world of work in the global AIDS response.
  • Recommendation No. 200 has been translated into more than 30 languages.
  • Recommendation No. 200 has been cited, in conjunction with ILO Convention No. 111 in at least five national court cases upholding the rights of workers living with HIV involving unfair dismissal.
  • More than 45 countries and territories have developed national workplace policies, sectoral policies and legislation based on the principles of Recommendation No. 200.
