  2. The 11th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific

    The ILO is organizing and participating in a series of events to highlight the importance of workplace actions and policies to ensure workplaces are free from stigma and discrimination and encourage workers to know their HIV status at the occasion of the 11th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP) which opens Monday, 18 November, in Bangkok, Thailand, under the theme 'Asia/Pacific Reaching Triple Zero: Investing in Innovation'.

    The Africa Union Abuja +12 Special Summit on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (A.T.M.) will be held in Abuja, Nigeria from 15 to 16 July 2013. In response to this challenge, the ILO/AIDS is organizing key awareness-raising events to highlight the new VCT@work initiative in line with the overall theme:'Ownership, Accountability and Sustainability of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Response in Africa: Past, Present and the Future'.

  2. Experts consultation on HIV and social protection research 20-21 May 2013

    ILO/AIDS held an experts consultation to develop country research methodologies to generate knowledge on “the access to and effect of social protection programmes on women and men workers in formal and informal economies living with HIV and their households.” This experts consultation was held at the ILO in Geneva on 20 – 21 May 2013 and brought together HIV, social protection and research experts from around the world.

    On 22 November, the ILO and SEDCO - the Small Enterprises Development Corporation have signed an agreement on the establishment of the Economic Empowerment Fund, under the patronage of the Minister of Labour and Social Services of Zimbabwe.

    The ILO Training Centre in Turin is organizing a two-week capacity-building course on HIV/AIDS and the world of work, with a prevention and social protection perspective. The course aims to strengthen the capacity of planners and social actors to develop and implement workplace policies and programmes on HIV and AIDS that build on and benefit from the decent work approach, covering rights, prevention, employment issues, social protection aspects and social dialogue.

    On 23-25 May 2012, the ILO Geneva will host a Global Youth Employment Forum to address the challenges young people face in the labour market.   1. Sub-Regional meeting supporting teachers infected and affected by HIV in West and Central Africa

    24 - 26 April 2012, Accra, Ghana

    The meeting aims at generating ideas to strengthen teachers’ roles in contributing to HIV prevention efforts and ensuring that teachers living with HIV can be supported through effective policies and HIV prevention, treatment and care programmes, protecting them from HIV-related stigma and discrimination. The meeting will address specific challenges faced by teachers living with and affected by HIV and AIDS in West and Central Africa. The meeting will be organized jointly by ILO, UNESCO, the World Bank, UNAIDS, WHO, Ministries of Education, Education International (EI), and Partnership for Child Development (PCD).
