Programmes and projects

Technical cooperation programmes and projects implemented are one of the main means of action to support constituents in promoting decent work in the African region and to give effect to the Decent Work Agenda in Africa 2007-15.

Since 2002, a total of 560 technical cooperation programmes and projects have been approved for the African region, with a total budget of US$545.2 million. Practically all countries in the region have benefited from such interventions. As of December 2011, there were 205 active technical cooperation projects being managed by the ILO in the African region.

2014

  1. Promoting Livelihood and Durable Solution in Dolo Ado, Ethiopia

    2 January 2012 - 31 December 2014

    ILO partnered with UNHCR to implement a two year project entitled “Promoting Livelihood and Durable Solution in Dolo Ado, Ethiopia”. The project aims to contribute to the promotion of sustainable livelihoods of refugees and hosting communities in the Dollo Ado area of South Eastern Ethiopia, a target population of around 100,000 persons.

  3. Promoting the Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work through Social Dialogue and Gender Equality in Morocco

    The project will reinforce the institutionalization of social dialogue in Morocco. An Economic and Social Council (ESC) was established for the first time to support the dialogue between social partners and civil society organizations.

  4. Corridor Economic Empowerment Project (CEEP)/ Economic Empowerment and HIV Vulnerability Reduction along Transport Corridors in Southern Africa

    CEEP is premised on the rationale that poverty in informal work settings like transport corridors and other densely populated areas exacerbate HIV and AIDS vulnerability.

    This Project is a way to increase economic opportunities and therefore economic resilience of the most vulnerable populations and workers with high risk of exposure to HIV infections.

  7. Promoting Good Labour Market Governance and Fundamental Rights at Work in Morocco

    1 January 2012 - 31 July 2014

    This project aims to support government and social partners' organizations in developing social dialogue in the country for greater promotion and implementation of fundamental rights at work.

  8. Improvement of livelihood of vulnerable households in urban and peri-urban areas of Galkayo

    1 August 2011 - 31 July 2014

    The overall objective of the project is to provide an enabling environment for investment and Public – Private – Partnerships (PPPs) and for improving livelihoods in Galkayo.

  10. Employment creation through Small and Medium Scale Enterprise (SME) development

    The overall project objective is to create decent employment opportunities for historically disadvantaged population groups in Free StateProvince. The overall project outcome is sustainable community-based small businesses that have created at least 5,000 decent jobs.
