Webinar on the 2018 International Conference of Labour Statisticians (ICLS) guidelines

Cairo (ILO News)- On Thursday, 16th of December 2021, the ILO through the “Towards a Holistic Approach to Labour Migration and Labour Mobility in North Africa” (THAMM) Programme funded by the European Union and in coordination with the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) in Egypt, held a Webinar on the 2018 International Conference of Labour Statisticians (ICLS) guidelines concerning the statistics of international labour migration.

The webinar was opened by Dr. Shaker Al-Najjar, Head of the Central Administration for Population Research and Studies, CAPMAS and Ms. Aurelia Segatti, THAMM Chief Technical Adviser, ILO.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Segatti indicated that “The THAMM programme supports the strengthening of labour migration data across North Africa, through numerous capacity-building and harmonization activities as well as the building of integrated information systems. Aligning on the 20th International Conference of Labour Statisticians’ recommendations is key to this endeavour.”

The webinar was facilitated by Mr. Yacouba Diallo, Senior Statistician, ILO Dakar Office and was attended by representatives from the national partners.

The webinar served as an opportunity to provide an overview about the guidelines and orient national partners about the latest statistical standards on labour migration data with a view to enhance the collection and production of reliable labour migration data in accordance with international standards that meet the needs of users.

It was also announced during the webinar that the THAMM programme will also work on the translation of the 2018 ICLS guidelines into Arabic to be released in 2022.
