The International Labour Organization Country Office for Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique, with funding from the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida), will support Kafue Gorge Regional Centre (KGRTC) implement a pilot project for skills development for the Renewable Energy (RE) and Energy Efficiency (EE) sub-sectors in Zambia. With strong buy-in from the private sector, both foreign and domestic, the one-year pilot project aims to contribute to Zambia having the necessary skilled people to tap into the rapid development of technology in renewable energy and energy efficiency.

On Friday 15 March 2019, 28 green business ideas from emerging and established small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) were celebrated at the Simuka-Phakama 2018 Green enterPRIZE Innovation Challenge Awards Ceremony. The business awards were delivered by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in collaboration with the Government of Zimbabwe, the Employers’ Confederation of Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions, with financial support from the Government of Sweden.

The summit, which saw Africa Ministers of Labour from Member states, who are members of the Africa Regional Labour Administration Centre (ARLAC) has ended. It was a busy three days, which started with the 45th ARLAC Governing Council, then on the second day, a discussion on the draft standard on ‘violence and harassment in the world of work’; and on the last day, the launch and deliberations of the Global Commission Report on the Future of Work; and concluding on a high note with celebrations of the ILO’s 100 years of existence hosted by the Government of South Africa.
