SATUCC Labour Symposium

Trade Unions Strategies in Promoting Decent Work in Global Supply Chains.

SATUCC held a labour Symposium on 28&29 March 2016 in Gaborone, titled 2016 is "Trade unions strategies in promoting Decent Work in Global Supply Chains".

The symposium aimed to provide a platform to allow SATUCC and Affiliates prepare for SADC Ministers and Social Partners Meeting, the International Labour Conference and other relevant meetings and develop Southern Africa workers group responses and positions to the same.

In addition the symposium aimed to provide a platform to receive updates from worker representatives on the Governing Body (GB) of the ILO and other related bodies/taskforces.

Expected Outputs
  1.  Consolidated SATUCC and affiliates Strategy on promoting decent work in the supply chain and attendant draft action plan.
  2.  Common position towards the 2016 SADC Employment and Labour Sector (ELS) Meetings of the Senior Officials/Ministers and the 105th International Labour Conference agenda.
  3. Assessment and monitoring tool for regional and national employment and labour policies.
Expected Outcomes
  1. Trade unions are knowledgeable on global supply chains and are able to promote decent work and workers rights for the common good of the working class
  2. Meaningful and value adding participation by SATUCC and affiliates influence outcomes of the 2016 SADC Employment and Labour Sector (ELS) Meetings of the Senior Officials/Ministers and the 105th International Labour Conference 
  3. Trade union track progress in implementation of regional and national employment and labour policies.
