Objectives of the workshop.

Another recommendation of the 2009 ILO Commission of Inquiry report was that the Government of Zimbabwe be given the necessary support in training and
education of its key institutions and personnel conventions No. 87 and No.98 (Freedom of Association and the Right to Organize Convention, 1948 and the Right to Organize and Collective Bargaining Convention, 1948) respectively, as they relate to freedom of association and collective bargaining, civil liberties and human rights.

This workshop is a first in a series of activities that will be aimed at training key state actors for the full respect of human and trade union rights and to enable the elaboration and promulgation of clear lines of conduct in this regard. The topics covered included presentations and discussions on the ILO Supervisory system; Human rights and fundamental principles and Rights at Work; Industrial relations in Zimbabwe and the role of state actors; Freedom of Association and Collective bargaining and the Role of State Actors in Industrial Disputes. The participants also had the opportunity to break into groups to discuss case studies on their roles in dealing
with industrial relations disputes including strikes.
