  2. A Production Center in Galkayo creates employment and promotes economic growth

    Recently, there have been increased violence and assassinations in the city and this civil insecurity affects all wealth groups, causing displacement, loss of lives and property and a high rate of unemployment.

  3. Galkayo, when artisan enterprise creates jobs and promotes reconciliation

    Galkayo is one of the largest cities in southern and central Somalia. For years, the city has been in a state of armed conflict. Nonetheless, Galkayo is the largest market for livestock in the horn of Africa. The ILO, in partnership with FAO and Terre Solidali, has led an initiative of improving livelihoods of vulnerable people in Galkayo through a project funded by the European Union.

  4. International training course on labour based technology in roadworks for Somali engineers

    25 March 2013

    Between 30th January - 25 March 2013 a three month labour based technology training was held for 9 Somali engineers in Mbeya, Tanzania. The ILO, Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Appropriate Technology Training Institute (ATTI) supported this training course which focused on road rehabilitation and road maintenance.

  5. Public Private Forum on ‘Women in Business’

    On 2nd January 2013, the International Labour Organization (ILO), Ministry of Social Services and Development and Horn Relief Development (HRD) held a Public Private Forum to discuss the role of women in business.

  6. Business skills training for IDPs

    On 23rd February - 14th March 2013, ILO, EU and Horn Relief Development trained 20 women from Internally Displaced Camps in basic business skills. The eighteen day intensive training programme was held at Hawo Taako Center, Mogadishu.

  8. Development of a Tripartite Framework for the Support and Protection of Ethiopian women Domestic Migrant Workers to the GCC States, Lebanon and Sudan

    This project aims at better protecting decent work standards at work and the human rights of women migrant domestic workers from Ethiopia and the Somali region throughout the process of migration – from their place of origin to their destination. The project places special emphasis on young women.
