Events and meetings

One of ACTRAV’s main events is the bi-annual International Workers’ Symposium. This is a meeting gathering trade unionists and other specialists from all over the world to discuss a given topic.

In addition ACTRAV organizes other events, meetings and workshops, both at headquarters and in the field, focusing on the areas of activities of the bureau.

ACTRAV is at the service of workers representatives as they participate in different meetings at the ILO. Colleagues do also assist in preparing case files that will help worker representatives develop their positions and arguments for the Annual Conference of the ILO, the Governing Body, regional and sectoral conferences and in the Office's various activities.

They largely live within the households that receive their services, under sponsorship arrangements. Excluded from labour and social security laws in the region, they are viewed as aliens or victims rather than workers at both the level of social perception and policy response. The undervaluation of care work at all levels leads to the undermining of workers performing it.

The Global Labour University invited trade unionists and academic scholars to explore ideas for a progressive alternative to the failed globalisation regime. Fundamental change is required to protect people and societies against the current economic disorder. Democratic decision making needs to be the master of the market and not vice versa. The leaflet below (pdf) describes the Conference in more detail and under Key Resources you will find additional documents from the Conference.
