Beijing, 10 December 2011 (ACTRAV INFO)- The Bureau for Workers’ Activities (ACTRAV), together with the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) and the ILO County Office for China and Mongolia in Beijing, held a joint seminar on Precarious Work in Beijing from 9 to 10 December 2011.

The main objective of this seminar was to focus on understanding the growing global trend of precarious work, and the ACFTU’ response to precarious work in China.

“The issue of precarious work is a growing issue in China. This is related to more people on non-permanent contracts, casualization, part-time work etc. With the participants we see how collective bargaining can deal with this issue of precarious work and how collective bargaining can be promoted in the country. The information in the conclusions and report of ACTRAV’s Geneva symposium was very useful to the participants during this seminar”, explained Mr Raghwan Raghwan, Desk Officer for the Asia and Pacific Region, at the ILO’s Bureau for Workers’ Activities (ACTRAV).

This seminar followed ACTRAV’s Symposium on Policies and Regulations to Combat Precarious Employment held in Geneva from 4 to 7 October 2011.
