On 28 April at ILO headquarters in Geneva, the Bureau for Workers’ Activities held a ceremony to commemorate workers killed and injured at work.

Geneva, 28 april 2011(ACTRAV INFO)-On 28 April at ILO headquarters in Geneva, the Bureau for Workers’ Activities held a ceremony to commemorate workers killed and injured at work.

This event marked the World Day for Safety and Health at Work. During the ceremony, participants pledged to strengthen safety and health at work, including through trade union action, collective bargaining, regulation, and legislation based on the ILO’s international labour standards. The participants also called for a commitment to ratify and implement ILO Conventions, notably numbers 155, 162, 174, 176, and 187.

Among those taking part in the ceremony were representatives of the ILO’s SAFEWORK department, the World Health Organization (WHO), the Global Union Federation (GUF) and Building and Wood Workers’ International.
