Conditions of Work and Wages

Document | 23 July 2009

Excessive working hours, lack of adequate maternity protection, poverty wages and denial of vacation and regular weekends are widespread. Billions of workers do not even enjoy basic decency at the work place. They earn less than 2 $ a day and are not protected against unfair dismissal, hazardous working conditions and reckless exploitation. Wages and working conditions are at the heart of the Decent Work Agenda. The ILO is the authoritative source of international comparative data on wages, working hours and minimum wage legislation. International Standards on fixing minimum wages, regulating working hours, ensuring maternity protection are key instruments to address the current decent work deficits.

ACTRAV supports trade union campaigns for minimum wages through research, publications and workshops. It plays an active role in disseminating wage data and supporting trade unions in their struggle for better wages and working conditions.
