Building effective employer and business membership organizations
Setting a minimum wage: A review of options for Pacific employer and business membership organizations
Minimum wage-setting systems have become an important policy issue for employer and business member organizations (EBMOs) in the Pacific. In recent years, notable shifts have taken place. A few countries have seen significant minimum wage increases and many Pacific employers are concerned that the minimum wage-setting system in their country lacks evidence-based criteria and transparency, can become politicized, or can be influenced by outside guidance. This guide has been developed to support Pacific EBMO in benchmarking minimum wage setting in their country to the wider sub-region and to develop a deeper understanding of standards relating to wage setting, mechanisms that can be applied, and factors of concern to business and employers.
